What Inspires You?

When you sit down to accomplish something, what inspires you?  Do you like music while you work?  Maybe you prefer to view the competition to give yourself that "edge" to do your own thing?  What works for you?

Many things inspire me.  Whether it is writing from another author, a situation that I've dealt with, a new song on the radio, a sermon given by one of my favorite Pastors.  Sometimes, it can be as simple as sitting with the kids and listening to them talk about their day.  If you are open to inspiration it can come from a wide variety of sources.

Sometimes, I will be walking the dog and a thought will come to me.  As I think more on it, it morphs into a story.  Most of the time, it is a scene in a story and then my mind creates the characters, places, and situations.  There have even been times when just a simple cactus flower on a sidewalk in Jersey (who knew cactus grew here?) that will set my mind off to wonderous thoughts.  Those thoughts become a scene and that scene becomes a story.

I have started many stories in the past few years.  But, I seem to lack the confidence to finish any of them.  That, for an author, is not too good.  I mean, it's like watching your favorite TV show and at the half-way point it goes to commercial, but never comes back on.  My readers would hate me quite quickly, dontcha think?  LOL

I look forward to putting the finishing touches on the stories I've already written.  I have some great friends who can help me with proof reading and editing.  Then, I just have to bite the bullet and publish.  What's the worst that can happen?  No one likes them?  No sales?  At least, I will know in my heart that I followed through and finished.

So, I hope to be sharing snippets here and there over the next few months.  And, I hope you enjoy them.

Until then,

~Joy~
